Fans of the Crosstrek may remember its gas-electric version, a plug-in hybrid that was last made for model year 2023. Subaru has brought back the option for a more eco-friendly powertrain for this nameplate, although it's now a conventional hybrid, with no need to plug in to charge the electric motors. Two trims, the Sport and Limited, are eligible for the hybrid upgrade, which unites a 2.5-liter Boxer engine with dual electric motors to achieve 36 mpg and a combined output of 194 horsepower (that's 14 more ponies than the standard powerplant makes). These hybrid trims enjoy technology upgrades such as a fully digital 12.3-inch instrument cluster and an enhanced infotainment center with onboard navigation and traffic updates, neither of which is offered on the gas-only trims. The Sport Hybrid is also the only Crosstrek that with a standard power moonroof, while the Limited Hybrid alone gets a Harman Kardon audio system. Exclusive paint colors called Citron Yellow Pearl and Sand Dune Pearl are also the domain of the gas-electric Crosstrek.

The non-hybrid lineup has some changes to boast about as well, starting with a 30-horsepower increase for the Base trim, as it now gets the same 2.5-liter BOXER engine as the other Crosstrek trims. The Base also gets push-button start, an 8-speed manual mode with paddle shifters, and Subaru's Dual-Function X-MODE with Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud drive settings, while the Limited, Limited Hybrid, and Wilderness gain a heated steering wheel. The automaker's acclaimed safety suite has been expanded with lane change assist and emergency lane keep assist on the Sport Hybrid, Limited, Limited Hybrid, and Wilderness, while the Limited and Limited Hybrid add DriverFocus distraction mitigation. A 360-degree monitor is available on the Limited Hybrid.
