2025 Forester

Overview

When Subaru introduced the Forester for the 1997 model year, it rocketed to popularity for its versatility, capability, and practicality. Over the years, the Forester has evolved to meet buyers' changing needs and preferences, with each generation offering more features and improvements in design and sophistication. Building on this legacy, Subaru is set to launch an all-new 2025 Forester SUV, marking the sixth generation of its popular model.

When it arrives in showrooms, the completely redesigned Forester will feature sleeker exterior styling, a refined and quieter interior, improved ride and handling, and enhanced safety features. This preview covers what we currently know about the highly anticipated 2025 Forester.

Trims and Powertrain

The 2025 Subaru Forester will be available in five trims: Base, Premium, Sport, Limited, and Touring. A sixth-generation Forester Wilderness will join the lineup with a later release. All versions will have a revised 2.5-liter Subaru Boxer engine making 180 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque. The engine will partner with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). As always, Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system will be standard.

Standard Features

Look for the base model Forester to be well equipped with a long list of standard features, including dual-zone automatic climate control, fabric upholstery, steering-responsive LED headlights with auto on/off, remote keyless entry, roof rails, a USB port, and 17-inch alloy wheels. The Premium will be upgraded with a panoramic power moonroof, heated front seats, a ten-way power driver’s seat, heated side mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a windshield wiper de-icer, reclining rear seatbacks, four USB ports (two per row), wireless device charging, and an advanced AWD system. You can expect the Sport to live up to its name with a re-tuned suspension for added capability, an eight-speed manual shift mode with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, and unique exterior treatments. This trim will also have StarTex leatherette upholstery and 19-inch alloy wheels.

Subaru will load more comfort and convenience features into the Limited, including perforated leather upholstery, an eight-way power front passenger seat, a hands-free power liftgate, a heated steering wheel, an eight-speed manual shift mode with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, and 18-inch alloys. The Forester will go further upscale with the Touring trim, which will have perforated leather-trimmed upholstery with suede bolsters, heated and ventilated front seats, a driver’s memory system, heated rear outboard seats, a digital rearview mirror, a low-profile roof rack, and 19-inch alloy wheels.

Advanced Driver Aids and Safety Technology

Every 2025 Forester will come standard with the latest generation of Subaru's EyeSight driver assist technology. The system benefits from a wider field of view, updated control software, and the addition of an electric brake booster, allowing it to operate more smoothly, quickly, and in a broader range of conditions. EyeSight includes features like forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, and adaptive cruise control with lane keep assist. Emergency stop assist is new for 2025 and part of the EyeSight system. This technology can stop the vehicle if it detects an unresponsive driver when the adaptive cruise control is engaged. Blind-spot detection with lane change assist and rear cross-traffic alert are optional on the Premium, Sport, and Limited and included with the Touring. The Touring will get the complete safety treatment with reverse automatic braking and a driver distraction mitigation system.

Infotainment and Connectivity

Infotainment for the base 2025 Forester will be handled via a dual 7.0-inch touchscreen system, while the higher trims will get a single 11.6-inch touchscreen. Supporting technology is said to include Android Auto and Apple CarPlay (wireless on the Premium and above), Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, a multi-speaker audio system, and access to Subaru Starlink connected services and a Wi-Fi hotspot. An 11-speaker Harman Kardon sound system will be optional on the Sport and Limited and standard with the Touring.
