2025 Subaru Ascent

Overview
The three-row crossover class is brimming with exceptional options, but few can rival the practicality of the Subaru Ascent. For starters, it comes standard with all-wheel drive. It also boasts a durable yet refined interior and spirited performance, making it attractive to a wide range of drivers from adventurous individuals to active families. The Ascent also makes quite an impression with its generous standard set of features, including Subaru’s advanced EyeSight Driver Assist Technology suite and the intuitively operated STARLINK infotainment system, both of which contribute greatly to the modern and connected driving experience that the Ascent supplies.
For the 2025 model year, Subaru has discontinued the Base trim, making the well-appointed Premium the new entry-level option. This shift means that even the lowest-priced model now boasts desirable standard features like wireless smartphone connection (Android Auto and Apple CarPlay), as well as a comprehensive suite of helpful driver-assist technologies. Two new trims have joined the lineup: the Bronze Edition and Onyx Edition Touring, broadening the Ascent’s desirability with their unique styling and premium enhancements.

Trim Levels and Seating Capacity
The 2025 Subaru Ascent is available in six trims: Premium, Onyx Edition, Limited, Bronze Edition, Touring, and Onyx Edition Touring. The Premium and Limited come standard with seating for eight but can be ordered with second-row captain’s chairs that will reduce the capacity to seven. Captain’s chairs are standard in the Onyx Edition, Bronze Edition, Touring, and Onyx Edition Touring.
Powertrain and Efficiency
Every Ascent has a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that puts out 260 horsepower and 277 lb.-ft. of torque and is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). As we mentioned in the intro, Subaru’s renowned Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system comes standard across the board. Every trim can tow up to 5,000 pounds. Fuel efficiency is strong for its class, with the EPA estimating a return of 20 mpg in city driving and 26 mpg on the highway for the Premium and 19 mpg city/25 mpg highway for the other five trims.
Standard Features
The new base trim, the Premium, is generously appointed with standout amenities. The highlights include heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, tri-zone automatic climate control, proximity keyless entry with push-button start, and a power liftgate. It also gets a windshield wiper de-icer, 60/40-split flat-folding second- and third-row seatbacks, multiple USB ports, LED steering-responsive headlights, and 19 cup holders.
The Onyx Edition raises the Ascent’s rugged character with exclusive exterior accents, water-resistant StarTex upholstery, a panoramic moonroof, LED fog lights, a heated steering wheel, and second-row captain’s chairs. The Limited adds leather upholstery, a heated (outboard) second-row bench seat, position memory for the driver’s seat and side mirrors, and Subaru’s Cabin Connect in-car PA system.
The new Bronze Edition blends practicality with style thanks to StarTex upholstery, second-row captain’s chairs, and eye-catching bronze exterior accents. The Touring takes luxury further with Nappa leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, a digital rearview mirror, and a 120V power outlet. At the top of the range, the Onyx Edition Touring combines the forward styling of the Onyx Edition with the upscale features of the Touring.
Advanced Safety Features
Safety has long been a cornerstone of Subaru’s philosophy, and every ‘25 Ascent comes with the renowned EyeSight Driver Assist Technology suite. It groups adaptive cruise control with lane centering, pre-collision braking, lane departure and sway warning, lane keep assist, and automatic emergency steering. Every trim also gets high-beam assist, blind-spot detection with lane change assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and reverse automatic braking. The Limited and higher are given a surround-view camera system and Subaru’s DriverFocus distraction mitigation system.
Infotainment and Connectivity
The ‘25 Ascent is outfitted with Subaru’s STARLINK infotainment system, featuring an 11.6-inch touchscreen across the lineup. Its components are wireless Android Auto, wireless Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM satellite radio, HD Radio, Bluetooth, a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, and a six-speaker audio system. In the Limited and above, this system is enhanced with a top-shelf 14-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, integrated navigation, and voice recognition.
