2026 Subaru
Uncharted
Preview

The soon-to-debut Uncharted will be not only the most affordable but also the sportiest of Subaru’s EVs. This all-electric subcompact crossover is set to be introduced in 2026 alongside the larger Trailseeker, which will focus on off-roading. Power and efficiency will be the name of the Uncharted’s game, with a different focus depending on the drivetrain: either an output of 338 horsepower or 300-plus miles of driving range.

This latest EV venture is aptly named, as it will mark a rare occurrence when Subaru breaks one of its tried-and-true rules: standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. The Uncharted’s base trim will get front-wheel drive, as the automaker steps away from its distinctive drivetrain in the name of efficiency. Subie purists need not worry, though, as AWD will still be standard on this new nameplate’s higher trims.

Dimensions and Design

The Uncharted will be Subaru’s smallest EV, measuring almost 7 inches shorter than the Solterra (although their ground clearance will be the same at 8.3 inches). With seating for five and over 25 cubic feet of designated storage space, the Uncharted’s interior dimensions will slot between those of the Crosstrek and Forester. It will also mirror the tight turning radius and cornering aptitude of the Crosstrek and will sit atop a lightweight, high-strength steel chassis for fine handling and efficiency.

As far as looks go, the Uncharted will fall in line with the other 2026 Subaru EVs, sporting the distinctive front end marked by LED headlights and an illuminated badge. Around the back, it will show off combination taillights, black badging, and a silver-painted rear fascia. The Uncharted will be available with Cosmic White Pearl and Astro Black Mica paint, which it shares with the upcoming redesigned 2026 Solterra, while also introducing model-exclusive Habanero Orange Metallic, Metropolis Gray Metallic, and Coastal Wolf Gray Metallic. The GT trim will go further with available eye-catching, two-toned color schemes.

Trims, Powertrains, and Drivetrains

The Uncharted will make its debut with three trims: the Premium FWD, Sport, and GT. In a trade-off for maximum range, the Premium FWD will buck the Subaru trend of standard all-wheel drive. With that less-demanding driveline and a single 221-hp electric motor, it’s expected to reach an estimated range of more than 300 miles per full charge. The Sport and GT will return to the automaker’s usual Symmetrical AWD with front and rear electric motors. The dual-motor system will crank out 338 combined horsepower and achieve an estimated 290-mile range. With AWD comes the automaker’s dual-function X-MODE, with grip control for enhanced traction on variable terrain. Like every 2026 Subaru EV, the Uncharted will be compatible with the North American Charging Standard (NACS) and will have a battery preconditioning system to enhance cold-weather fast-charging performance. The lineup’s 74.7-kWh battery pack, the same one found in the rest of Subaru’s 2026 EVs, is estimated to charge from 10 to 80 percent in roughly 30 minutes.

Amenities and Furnishings

Look for the Premium FWD to have cloth upholstery, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, dual wireless smartphone charging, a power liftgate, keyless entry, push-button start, heated exterior mirrors, ambient interior lighting, and 18-inch alloy wheels with aerodynamic covers. The Sport will be upgraded with StarTex water-repellent seating surfaces, a heated steering wheel, a power-adjustable front passenger seat, and low-profile roof rails. Expect a panoramic glass roof with a motorized shade in the GT, along with heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear outboard seats, a digital rearview mirror, and 20-inch gunmetal-finished alloy wheels with gloss-black inserts. All three trims will come equipped with Subaru’s new infotainment system, consisting of a 14-inch multimedia touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay . The GT will get the best sound system, a Harmon Kardon unit with 11 speakers.

Driver-Assist and Safety Technology

The entire Uncharted lineup will be outfitted with standard components of Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assistance technology suite, providing pre-collision braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane departure alert, emergency stop assist, and advanced adaptive cruise control. The proprietary DriverFocus distraction mitigation system will also come standard across the lineup. Traffic Jam Assist (low-speed hands-free driving) will be added at the Sport level, along with active lane change assist, front cross-traffic alert, and a 360-degree surround view monitor.
