Solterra
Preview

The Solterra is set to begin its second generation with a new look, updated technology, and an expanded lineup with the addition of the Limited XT, Touring XT, and Touring XT Leather. With the Touring and Touring Onyx Edition being discontinued, the base Premium and mid-range Limited will carry over to join the new trims. As for appearance, the updated design follows Subaru’s new EV trend with a revised silhouette, a powerful front fascia, revamped LED headlights, and the distinctive illuminated badging seen on the other electrified Subaru models. New colors, Astro Black Mica and Midnight Tide Mica, will replace the discontinued Galactic Black color. The two-toned color schemes previously available on the Touring Onyx Edition will now be offered on the Touring XT and Touring XT Leather trims.

The other big development is that this second Solterra generation will surpass its predecessor in both power and fuel efficiency. The new battery will enable estimated range of up to 288 miles on a full charge, and the XT trims will generate up to 338 ponies, outpacing the current model’s 227 miles of range and 215 horsepower. As always, Subaru’s symmetrical all-wheel drive will be the rule, but a 4.9-second 0-to-60-mph time will complement that stability with some excitement. Compatibility with nationwide charging station networks will be expanded thanks to the North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, while the upgraded battery will mean faster charging times: from 10 to 80 percent in approximately half an hour. Among the technology improvements will be wireless smartphone chargers on all trims along with a larger multimedia touchscreen.

Trims, Powertrain, and Performance

The reimagined Solterra will come in five trim levels: Premium, Limited, Limited XT, Touring XT, and Touring XT Leather. The base powertrain (serving the first two trims) will couple front and rear electric motors to generate 233 combined horsepower and propel the Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (AWD). The three XT trims will get an upgraded dual-motor powerplant that makes 338 combined horsepower. Both dual-motor systems will offer enhanced traction thanks to independent front and rear power distribution, complemented by dual-function X-MODE with grip control.

Standing 8.3 inches off the ground, the new Solterra will continue Subaru’s adventurous reputation for capability off the beaten path, with regenerative braking and on-demand torque increasing driver engagement. The ‘26 Solterra’s 74.7-kWh battery will replace the outgoing 72.8-kWh battery pack and provide quick charging from 10 to 80 percent in 30 minutes. Battery and charging performance can be expected to withstand New England winters thanks to a preconditioning system, which will regulate optimal charging temperature in cold weather.

Amenities by Trim Level

The features roster for the base Premium will now include water-resistant StarTex upholstery, dual wireless smartphone chargers, and a power liftgate. It will also have a power-adjustable driver’s seat, a squared-off steering wheel, heated front seats, keyless entry and push-button start, roof rails, and 18-inch alloy wheels with aerodynamic covers. The Limited will add a heated steering wheel, power front seats, heated second-row seats, Digital Key, 20-inch wheels, and a new convenience feature: a programmable power liftgate with hands-free foot-activation. The Limited XT will have the same equipment roster along with the upgraded powertrain.

In the Touring XT, expect a panoramic glass roof, heated and ventilated front seats, radiant heat for the driver and front passenger, and a digital rearview mirror. The Touring XT Leather – as its name suggests – will replace the StarTex upholstery with premium leather.
