2024 Subaru WRX

Overview
For some, the activity of driving is more than just a passive point A-to-B activity – it’s an experience to be cherished. Enter the Subaru WRX, a sports-car icon with the verve to kick your commute into high gear. Originally conceived as a souped-up variant of the Impreza for the World Rally Championship in 1992, the WRX became its own nameplate in 2015 with a slightly different body style geared more toward performance. Since then, the WRX has become a symbol of the brand’s dynamic spirit thanks to its quick-shifting manual transmission and rally-inspired handling.
For model year 2024, the WRX returns with a new TR trim level, which years ago was merely a stripped-down variant intended for modification. This time around, the TR is fully equipped with specialized performance attributes, like Brembo brakes, a retuned suspension with stiffer springs, and Recaro sport seats. Other than that, stick-shift versions of the ’24 WRX now receive the EyeSight safety suite previously reserved for those with the continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Trims, Powertrain, and Performance
Five trims are in the 2024 WRX lineup: Base, Premium, Limited, TR, and GT. The entire range gets a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine producing 271 hp and 258 lb.-ft. of torque. Most get a six-speed manual transmission, but the GT receives a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with an eight-speed manual mode, which is optional for the Premium and Limited. All-wheel drive is standard across the board. According to the EPA’s official estimations, the ’24 WRX returns 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway with the manual gearbox and 18 city/25 highway with the CVT.
Standard Equipment
The Base WRX is ready to rally with its track-tuned suspension, front and rear underspoilers, rear bumper with an integrated diffuser, quad stainless-steel exhaust ports, 4.2-inch LCD gauge cluster with special performance readouts, and 17-inch wheels with high-performance summer tires. It’s also set up to be a comfortable daily driver with remote keyless entry, cloth upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, automatic LED headlights, performance-design front seats (manually adjustable), two USB ports (one Type-A and one Type-C), a center console with an LED-illuminated storage tray, and a 60/40-split flat-folding rear seatback.
The Premium gains proximity keyless entry, push-button start, heated front seats, aluminum-alloy pedals, LED fog lights, heated side mirrors, a windshield wiper de-icer, two rear USB ports (one Type-A and one Type-C), a rear center armrest with dual cupholders, a trunk-mounted spoiler, and 18-inch wheels with performance tires. For options, the Premium is eligible for Subaru’s performance-enhancing Si-Drive system and a moonroof.
While the Limited gets the moonroof standard, the Si-Drive system remains optional. This mid-level trim also adds steering-responsive LED headlights, side-view mirrors with built-in turn-signal indicators, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and Ultrasuede (faux suede) upholstery. The debuting TR is primed for the track, boasting Brembo performance brakes, a retuned suspension with stiffer springs, superior performance tires on 19-inch wheels, and Recaro sport seats. The GT mimics the features of the Limited, but adds Recaro sport seats, Si-Drive, a drive mode selector, variable torque distribution for the AWD system, and an electronically controlled suspension.
Active Safety Features
For the first time ever, WRXs set up with the manual tranny get the Subaru EyeSight Driver Assist Technology bundle, which includes adaptive cruise control with lane centering, pre-collision braking, and lane departure and sway warning with lane keep assist. Each trim also comes with automatic high beams. The Limited and above are also given blind-spot detection with lane change assist and rear cross-traffic alert, but only the GT receives reverse automatic braking (it’s available for the Limited).
Infotainment and Connectivity
The infotainment features for all trims consist of an 11.6-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, HD Radio, SiriusXM satellite radio, and Bluetooth connectivity. The Base and Premium receive a six-speaker sound system. Buyers of the Limited and above get a premium 11-speaker Harman Kardon sound system (this sound system upgrade is optional for the Premium) plus navigation and voice recognition.
